Welcome!

It's time to introduce yourselves! Use the form below to get out there and start plotting. New and old players alike are encouraged to post to the Intro & CR.

A mingle log will be posted on June 8.
While we won't be doing intro/mingle logs every application round, we'll have one for the first two rounds (June and August) to help everyone get settled! You can also check out the Bulletin for information on weather, broadcasts, and incidents.

Notes

• Characters can arrive in-game on any date throughout the month of the TDM. This means characters do not have to, and typically will not, arrive all at once. Arrivals will be scattered and more difficult to predict. Use this to stagger CR, give characters a couple weeks without seeing each other, or whatever you feel makes it interesting!
• Since base AC is low, players need to make AC for their first month. TDM threads continued into the month are perfectly acceptable as long as the comments submitted take place in the current month.

Updates

• We've made some updates to the Invites page to reflect the game's current player cap status and added a player cap count to the Taken page. Our player cap is formally 70 players. The FAQ has also been updated to reflect these changes.
• A reminder that the 2 characters per round allocation was for the first round only. Moving forward, all players, current and new, can only apply for one character per app round. (You may still have a total of 2 characters.)

damn.... life-changing... that's certainly a very different opinion than me and my handful of friends had on that book, haha. yeah, there are plenty of things from the second set of books that i really like, but nothing hits the highs that either golden son or morning star hit for me. i had a few granular complaints about dark age as well as just being upset about the "ending" that my favorite new pov character got (ephraim 🥺), but, like i said, some of my grouses on the narrative side at least were actually alleviated in light bringer. it's probably my least favorite out of all of the books, but i still have so much love for the series

so, yeah... def let me know what you think about light bringer 👀 did you listen to any of the audiobooks for red rising, btw? it's just one of those series i always end up listening to... i think the way it's read, with how much detail the guy puts into the accents (which is esp important in the first series considering darrow fluctuating between more "red" and "gold" ways of speaking!) adds a whole level to it that just reading the books would lack

i think it's TOTALLY cool for them to experiment and do some new things. it sure is hard to compare with tma, but that doesn't mean they shouldn't try with some new approaches! i will have to give it a listen soon

HAHA i just needed everything organized in a way i could reference, and the wiki wasn't cutting it for me...!! (god, yeah, u are right tho, this is a frighteningly john thing to say.) but your taste is EXCELLENT!!!!! if i wasn't playing john, i would definitely be playing daisy. she's one of my favs..... i just LOVE a complicated monster woman..... i am also a BIG fan of the distortion as well (both flavors. though i do wish we got a lil bit more of michael... i loved his voice actor)

TO BE FAIR life changing doesn't always mean GOOD. i think for a lot of my friends they've just never had a book be as emotionally devastating/give them such an emotional response before. HOWEVER even saying that, I think I had more of a reaction during golden sun and morning star than dark age. again- I think I was overhyped. but that's fine because I'm locked in and also a completionist so PB is NOT getting rid of me now. LOL

and god..... I do love ephram's POV chapters but I also think that's because I love. Pax. sobs. my son my BOY. MY BOY BEING BURIED UNDER THE WEIGHT OF HIS FATHER'S LEGACY!!!!! SCREAMS but also that is fascinating that dark age was your least favorite out of the whole series. I feel like I was STRUGGLING to finish Iron Gold. if I didn't have so many people hyping dark age I probably would have stopped there.

also omg......... friend. I am an audiobook PREFERER. I've been listening to the whole thing via audiobook. TGR is my MAN. I want to go back and listen to the dramatized versions, but I've really been loving his accents for everyone, which was a change for iron gold, but at least in dark age moira quirk was hired. obsessed with her.

YEAH. protocol is definitely just. nice. I love having some additional content, even if nothing will live up to the of. but I have definitely enjoyed it and definitely enjoy the callbacks they're weaving in.

I JUST LOVE A COMPLICATED MONSTER WOMAN!!!!!! also the hunt is one of my fave fears in general, so. clenches fist. perfect all around. I'm caught between the vast and the buried as my second fave but they've all got their own little perfections to them. sighs fondly. and my GOD I LOVE MICHAEL TOO. why are all the characters so good???

ah, yeah, i see... i definitely thought it was devastating, but i was more on the peeved end of "this feels a little too close to trauma porn/continuing to kick me while i'm already down" than any of that. (plus, the author started using sexual assault as an ~*edgy plot point again, which was very disappointing to me since that was my only big problem with the first book.) i probably would've lost all faith in the next book if the thing with cassius didn't happen at the end of dark age. i am, unfortunately (?), a Cassius Enjoyer

pax is wonderful!!! such a good character. and i like elektra too. i just loved the voice actor for ephraim and what a unique angle he gave to the story/world. just as a heads-up, since you're a fan of the audiobooks: for light bringer, they went back to only having TGR do all the povs. which was a bit of a shame (even though i think he's amazing). i never liked any of the folks who did lysander's chapters, but i looooved who they got for virginia and lyria. i did like the first person who read for lyria's chapters, but moira quirk was extremely good as well. and the person who read for virginia was just PERFECT to me.... i just LOVE virginia i LOVE HER!!!!!!!! but red rising is such a feast for good characters

i am just clenching my fist with you... i also LOVE the concept of the Hunt and a lot of the Hunters. they're just good, messy fun. you're right tho, tma is ALSO a feast for good characters when u think about it.

I AM ALSO A CASSIUS ENJOYER SO LISTEN. the highs and lows of high school football of being a cassius fan will keep me hooked for the rest of my life. but the end did get bad, which looking back does feel more trauma porn-y than actually emotionally devastating, but that easier to say looking back than I was in the moment.

all this to say I am EXCITED to keep moving through the next one, especially since PB just posted??? on insta??? and he might be done writing red god??? so I guess it's happening. i guess we're really doing this.

you're correct though, ephraim was such a good addition to the POVs and view of the world. and I feel like his whole process through his character growth was just. satisfying. and I did like his voice actor. getting through iron gold that VA was the only reason I could stomach it, so it is pretty sad. part of me is really excited for TGR because I do. miss his voice. but also virginia's voice actor was so important to me SOBS. I LOVE!!! GOD I LOVE VIRGINIA!!!!! SHE'S MY EVERYTHING IM JUST LSDHFJLSKDJFHSLKDJ if I ever picked up anyone from that series it would be her. she literally hits on. every single one of my character tropes CLENCHES FIST.

wow it's almost like we have good taste......... in series..... with great characters....... c: but yes god. the hunters!!! the hunt!!!! ALL OF THE FEARS!!!! ALL OF THEM I'm so fond whenever I remember them.
