Notices
Recent Storm
Weather
- Frosty temperatures, rain and sleet.
Summary
- By January 25, the Rail will be fully operational again. Now that the storm has passed, it will exhibit no more instabilities, and the chromatic ore used to safeguard the tracks are working as intended.
- The cube, following its miraculous replication of Acreage's livestock, has left the stronghold and is now floating above the Fringes instead. It moves slowly across the quadrants and can be seen from as far as Kolliery.
- Investigating the cube is possible. While initial investigations may not have yielded much, the more it lingers, the more storm chasers and other fluxdrifts grow intrigued. They won't be leaving it alone...even if they should. Perhaps you can join them?
- Now that the Rail is operational, Panorama will gain a greater supply of resources. Fresh fruit, vegetables, meat, and textiles can still cost more than scavenged items, but they're now at least available rather than impossible to obtain. Characters will find that the food served at restaurants and diners are more consistent than they were previously.
After the Event
Though the storm might've blown over, and the Rail might be functioning as expected again, things aren't quite the same with the arrival of the mysterious cube. Acreage, in particular, has been struck by its sudden surge in livestock, an effect that may not be as much of a blessing as it seems at first glance.
The Rail
The Rail is now running. Characters can buy a ticket and board the Rail to travel between the stations located at each stronghold: Kolliery, Panorama, and Acreage. The existence of the Rail will also increase the flow of natural resources and products cultivated on the Diadem rather than looted from the diffusion zones, including fresh produce and meat, textiles, and minerals. Characters will find that certain goods relying on those resources will reduce in price slightly, though not by a lot: Panorama maintains a tight grip on its economy for stability.
The Rail won't replace your car. If you want to explore the diffusion zones, travel at your own pace, or drive around the strongholds once you get there, you should skip the Rail and make the trip yourself. But the Rail's a good way to pay a quick visit to the strongholds for purchasing, meeting other folks, or simply getting out of the neon-grey city of Panorama.

Full information about the Rail can be found here. Using the Rail comes with some oddities so be sure to review the details.
The Cube
After the storm subsides, the cube begins to move. Over the course of a week, it wanders across the planet, eventually settling over the Fringes. Here, it floats counterclockwise, from quadrant to quadrant. It has also descended slightly, though it's still quite high up. Fluxdrifts who can fly or teleport can attempt to reach it, though results will vary for each individual.
Now that the storm is over, the cube may provide more answers than it did in Acreage. Stormchasers are recruiting individuals who are capable of helping them study this entity further. They'll take anyone with powers or scientific knowledge. If you think you can assist, they're happy to have you, but be careful: not everyone seeking answers are doing it for the right reasons, and it can be hard to distinguish people's motivations. The stormchaser community is fully unregulated, so anybody can call themselves one. Felix Bjurstrom is unfortunately too eager and friendly to properly vet stormchasers, though he himself is trustworthy—and can provide modest resources if you're serious about your research.

Acreage
Though the cube has migrated away, the fields cast in darkness still suffered the effects of a lack of sun for those days. It's nothing that can't be recovered from, but some of those farmers are already struggling to make ends meet. Conversely, those who dealt in livestock got lucky: their precious animals doubled overnight. Still, it raises questions. Why only the livestock? Are those animals even real? And what does this mean for an economy that, in some ways, was fueled by the fact that such animals were quite rare?
- Tourism in Acreage has increased due to both the cube and the Rail being available once more. Curious storm chasers are eager to visit the lake where the cube first emerged from. Some townsfolk are happy to take advantage of the money flowing in while others find the arrival gawking city folk a massive annoyance. Crop farmers are especially bitter. After all, they suffered setbacks while their livestock counterparts did not. This has led to some bad blood arising between families.
- A few individuals are eager to encourage the cube's return. Although this school of thought is not spoken of too widely for now, visitors will hear of those who believe the cube, if appeased, will return again to "bless" the farms with another miraculous replication.
As always, characters are free to visit Acreage either by car or, as of January, by the Rail. Acreage has plants, seeds, and fresh produce available for a lower cost if you're willing to make the trip out here to purchase it. Since the ride is about 6 hours, though, make sure you bring a cooler to keep your goods fresh.

CUBE INTERACTION ∞
This section is for short-term interactions only (i.e. "What happens if I throw a grenade at it?") If your character is interested in doing more extensive research, either solo or with a group, please use the Plot Request page.
Cube Interaction Form
no subject
Is this the first interaction? Second. They previously attempted contact with it in Acreage, but only received vague impressions that it was something of the void and "god-like."
What will your character(s) be doing? John and Viktor will attempt contact again, this time by approaching more closely. John can "float," but only to a limited height (not well elaborated on in canon), so Viktor - who can fly - will give him a 'lift'. John will use the same ability he uses to slip into others' minds. He typically uses this to erode and manipulate before exerting control, but here he is only trying to connect with what may be a similar consciousness. Through this, he may be able to exchange information. He can also attempt communication in the common eldritch tongue (Lovecraftian style), R'lyehian. I'm happy for the interaction to go well, badly, or fail, whatever works with the setting/mod plans!
Viktor uses touch telepathy, so he will try to physically touch the cube to communicate. This may allow him to perceive it as he does his astral zone in canon-- an abstract, enhanced psychic perception. If that’s possible, what would the cube look like on that plane? If the cube is projecting or emitting anything, would he be able to sense it?
They will collaborate with the Stormchasers, as Viktor has worked with them before and already has a positive impression of them.

Is this the first interaction? Yes
What will your character(s) be doing? Pretty simple, Jack will be flying up to touch it (if possible) and use some of his psychic power to try and connect with it. In canon, Jack is able to go into people's minds to pull out their memories and see other worlds through other versions of them. He doesn't have a lot of skill with controlling it, so in this case it would just be him poking around curiously, not trying to force it. If it matters, he is a being made of holy and celestial light, and if the cube would respond in a certain way to that type of energy, it's there!

What will your character(s) be doing? I'm sorry to double dip but Charles is more direct here. He can't go and touch it so he would use his telepathic ability to try and reach out and see if it has a mental presence that he can touch upon. He can read/share thoughts and emotions with the cube, if it is able to send or receive! He would be cautious in his approach.

What will your character(s) be doing? Clint does not have powers. What he does have is aim and ammo. Frank is here for moral support and to tell him this Avengers shit is way above his paygrade. Is shooting at the big metal(?) cube in the sky a good idea when it hasn't acted aggressively? No. No it's not. Is Clint going to do it anyway? It's the only thing he's got at the moment. Depending on just how high up it is, he'll try a plain jane arrow (with his enhanced weird bow to make it go further), and if that's a no go, he'll try a bullet. If it's low enough to be reasonable grapple arrow height, he'll try that, too, but won't bother if it's fuckoff high in the sky.
