[ Charles would have done the same, despite what Erik's embrace of power led him to. He would never hold anyone back, he already learned that lesson with Raven quite recently. He knows that he did many things that helped Erik, especially on an emotional level, but faces that it wasn't enough. His love and his hope couldn't rewrite Erik's inner demons. He remembers holding Shaw still so Erik could kill him, feeling the bullet go through his own skull, and the pain it caused him was mostly emotional. But still, he thought perhaps that was the last Erik needed to shut that part of his life down. He had hope all the same.

Foolish. Naive. Not arrogance, when it came to Erik, he felt the light in him and wanted it to shine. He touches it now, threading his way into his mind from the smallest of touches. Charles has that gentle shine that comes with him. He used to connect to it just out of reassurance, Erik became something he was a little addicted to. All those beautiful shadows.

The supermarket is populated, especially with a line for free samples, and it's difficult but not impossible to be there. Smaller crowds at a time he can survive, it's the city outside churning away at the edges of his consciousness. He massages his temple and his fingers tighten on Erik's shirt but then relaxes as he stabilizes. ]

You'd have to. Your name is quite famous now.

[ He's already in there so he may as well talk. After two attempted assassinations on presidents, he is likely wanted at large. But another country would be safer. He could restart there. If that is what he claims he is doing. ]

Did you plan on reaching out again?

[ Erik could not come 'home' anymore, not with his fame, but Charles wonders if he would go looking for him again. The answer is, most likely. Even if it was to see where he was. But it is hard to say. Erik is such a constant ache in his gut. ]
