Ah, a moral one. Very sweet of the man to try and tickle John's sense of guilt but he really doesn't have much of one to begin with and in this place it seems like a soft heart and helping won't get him anywhere.

It certainly won't make things easier. Survival and escape are John's only goals here.

John looks the guy up and down. "What if I help you find who took your wallet? Will that get you off my back?"

He's not sure what the police are like in this place but he doesn't want to find out this early in his stay. He also doesn't need this man causing a scene and making people wary about someone bumping into them.
