She also isn't stupid, and she recognizes a timely intervention for what it is. She nearly uses the opportunity to bolt immediately for the doors and get the hell outta dodge, but this man's words bring her up short, freezing her in place.

A man in several of her comics wears something almost exactly like those. She can practically see the little bubble panel of text. Cyclops. His optical blasts can cut through a brick wall. A leader.
But then, sometimes she wears glasses, too. Lots of people wear sunglasses. It doesn't necessarily mean anything.
