[ The three of them leave, an imprinted reminder to them to not stop until they arrive home and to stay there, and they won't 'wake up' until then, and forget this encounter entirely. Charles really does prefer not to be that aggressive with people, but when it comes to situations like this, he isn't only protecting himself. He thinks it best if they take their attitudes off the streets for one night, it won't hurt them long-term.

He tries hard not to listen to people's thoughts but if they're loud around him, it's difficult not to. At the moment the city is basically a chorus of loud, screaming voices, even now. Trying to control those men left him open to it again and he grits his teeth, forcing back the encroaching whisper of voices he doesn't want to be open to. He'd much rather focus on; not her brain, but her, the person who went into danger for a stranger.

He takes the paper and turns them over, deciding she must mean the side. If she's not asking him herself, there must be a reason. ]

I am, thank you. It's admirable that you tried to step in, Miss, and I appreciate it.

[ His hand drops down to his chair and he looks again like an average man, albeit one with a gentle tone and amiable nature. ]

I apologize if that was ... startling. I try not to do that often.
