[ As soon as he says it, he understands the ridiculousness of the idea, but it is difficult not to see a problem after what they've gone through and not thought perhaps Erik caused it. Unfair, perhaps, but he is just as new to other universes as Erik is. He does take in all the details he sees with Erik. Blue eyes hone in on him quickly, focused, noting all the differences and similarities. Hungry, in a way, since he thought they were about to be parted indefinitely again.

He doesn't reach out with his mind, nor does he need to. He knows he's telling the truth. ]

I don't know.

[ It's said with some amount of frustration because he knows that he is terribly wrong, but losing the high ground of their conversation has recently become easier. The tension in his expression gentles and he sighs, looking away from him. He thought the distance between them stretched on and on, and yet there Erik is, only a few feet away. His hand tightens on the wheels of his new chair, far from the complex one that Hank designed for him back home, and he presses his lips together tightly.

Is it relief that he feels, at some semblance of familiarity? Or is that cruel, in a way, to be glad to see someone stuck in the same situation? Erik's presence has become heavy where it once was featherlight. He is wearing the same clothing that Erik may have seen him in that day in DC, he has no change of them yet. There is even still blood on the collar, for now. ]

Sorry.

[ It's painful to say but Charles hates being unfair. He's been out of practice with people, and Erik has a way of dragging reactions out of him. ]
