The startled elder gentleman doesn't need to be told even once to head back into the safety of his own home, shutting the door (and locking it thrice for all it might actually do) and murmuring to his wife about how it's 'not safe' and 'there are guys fighting out there' with equal amounts of exhaustion and a little bit of fear in his voice. Her heart pounds thunderous, but she mumbles her agreement. They will not be leaving for the rest of this night.
At least they're out of immediate harm's way, allowing him and his companion to clean up this mess.
Renewed in his anger for a now ruined mark, Thug #1 and his buddy #2 will likely have to look elsewhere for some defenseless soul to rob, and he knows it. He comes back at Matt with reckless abandon, hands balled into fists. He yells profanities in frustration, his erratic emotions causing him to make clumsy mistakes that Matt can take full advantage of — and he does.
It results in Thug #1 receiving a broken nose and a dislocated shoulder, though Matt sustains a few good punches to the face too. In moments Thug #1 goes down swinging, falling unconscious, and Matt unclenches his fist, breathing deeply, his knuckles bruised. He'd put up a decent fight, but these guys aren't taking their lessons from any skilled master — or any master at all. They fight for survival and they fight to scrape by.
