[ He's half right with that feeling. She is worried about him, because in her world he's a beacon for good and they fight on the same side of keeping the world safe. But she's also worried for the people he might encounter along the way — that little display very clearly illustrated he's not entirely in control, and her experience with magic is limited enough that she doesn't have any real concept for how bad that might be.

For someone whose job it is to strategically weigh all the variables and make plans, not being able to do either is... frustrating, to say the least. As so many things are proving to be here.

His little deflection is something she sees through immediately, of course, but she lets it slide as she follows him. They could both use a little distraction to get through this part. ]

Oh, it was pretty bad a few years ago. They'd been digging into the foundations of society since SHIELD was formed after World War II, taking out anyone who tried to sound the alarm and stop them. [ Like Sousa, the newest member of their team, freshly plucked out of time just before his assassination. ] It took a long time for us to root them all out after they revealed themselves and SHIELD fell, but we rebuilt from the ground up and used all our energy to track them down. If there are still any remnants out there, they're just a tiny pocket right now.
