[ it could be considered a bit selfish, the fact she barely even notices the way he doesn't wrap his arms around her nearly as fast, but karen also karen is just. trying to ground herself to the spot. the rain is loud around them, echoing off the awning, and Karen just sort of holds on. for a few moments, for maybe a bit more than that, but it's all she really needs - exactly what he's thinking - a moment to feel not alone. to feel safe. and it works- he might be a stranger, she might not even know his name, but for just a few moments karen isn't alone. she isn't about to drown, surrounded by floating faces of her past mistakes. she isn't about to die, days into a new city, into a new place, without a single person to know what happened.
