[ Charles's love for Raven is pure and endless. She was his constant companion for most of his life, treasured in his heart from childhood. But he had given up on her, and he's thankful that Logan reminded him that he should not have, that you don't give up on the people you love. It led to them finding one another again, albeit briefly, given that they separated regardless of sharing that moment. But he understands that the two people he loved most in the world became the villains of their story. He struggles to see it that way, but he gets it.
Until Cerebro, Charles had only his studies to theorize what mutations could be out there. He didn't know how many were alive in his time, but he is not surprised to hear that the number has grown as the population rises and the natural genetic mutations continue. They may still have to hide at times from the world, but they found each other. It is that he has hope for, that which Charles is holding onto. But it isn't here.
Charles struggles with the offer, but in the end, he lets people make their own choices. Hank stayed with him for all those years out of love and loyalty, and he allowed that, so he can't very well refuse that to another. He might not know Logan the way he is known, but he is still one of his people. One of his beloved students, even if he was older when he found them.]
Alright, alright. I accept.
[ Charles sighs and rubs the bridge of his nose, willing his headache away. At a point he has to respect that Logan's knowledge and ability to survive is simply greater than his. ]
I suppose you are now the teacher.
[ Charles smiles faintly at him, weary. He's finished his sandwich and drink, which told a clearer story about how he's struggled in even the short time he's been here. He would do this for someone else, he has to get used to allowing it the other way around. And Logan at least he knows and trusts. ]
The X-Men were created originally to be soldiers, but I had hoped they wouldn't always have to be.
[ They worked for the government due to the situation they were in. He understands that they continued their hero work for good reasons, but it doesn't mean he wanted his students to be in danger. Or that one soldier had to be down at all. ]
