John does look like a drowned rat which makes sense given he was just wading in deep water. Jack doesn't have any drying magic otherwise he would have offered. He couldn't possibly just leave when someone was in danger, and if he had, maybe the creature would have circled back around to attack John again. He walks outside with him and glances over his shoulder, the shadows retreating and staying inside.

"No. I'm not sure what kind it is. Something to do with shadows. It cut me but I'm fine." His wound has already healed over. There's a little blood on his jacket but he'll wash it out later. He's been there before. "Sometimes monsters like to play games. I'm not sure why, it seems like it would be simpler to just eat a person." That's what they want in the end, usually, so they should get to the point.

"It's okay, we have an understanding, and I think it'll stay inside." If it knows what is good for it. Jack has never met a monster he couldn't kill so far. They're usually not more than gnats for an archangel. Jack frowns and feels something unexpectedy weighty in his pocket and reaches in to take up a bottle of antibiotics.

"I don't remember picking this up." Weird.
