[ Over time the weight on Jack's shoulders has become heavier and heavier. He may be only three (ish) but he's aged a lot more than that in those years of strife and ups and downs. His mother was right that he had to be born grown up. A true child wouldn't be able to handle any of it. Jack had the luck to have the Winchesters willing to take him in, otherwise it would have all been bad for him, or bad for the world, depending on who got to him first.

He was trying to be tough since getting here because his family wasn't there and he told himself that he had to be stronger, the way they'd want him to be, if he was going to be alone. He wouldn't slip up and let the loneliness make him foolish or dangerous. Yet it's a huge, huge relief to have Sam's hand on his shoulder and reminding him that he's a Winchester. And he's not alone, not now. ]

Together.

[ He echoes with a genuine smile. Everything is going to be okay now. Sam is there. And probably Castiel and Dean will be there, they're rarely apart for long. Or it'll be him and Sam and they'll find a way back to their loved ones on their own. A side adventure, like one of their cases, albeit a much more complicated one. ]

I got a job at the bowling alley. They have a bar and pool table so I thought Dean might go there.

[ It was always in his mind, ways in which he might run into them again, if they all got lost in this big place. He's never really been long in a city like this, he's used to their smaller areas. It's exciting but vast. Jack basically showed up to the alley and said he would do whatever they had a position for, and his hard work ethic and pleasant demeanor ended up mattering more than any resume. ]

They have food there too. It can be on me! I've never gotten you food before.

[ They've always provided food and shelter for him. ]
