[ There's not much that actually hurts him nowadays. Everything that hurts is internal, something that he can try and keep mostly confined to his own thoughts so as not to burden everyone else around him. But he'd been working on that. Sharing the hurt and the worries that plagued him most waking hours of the day, that is. Or at least he had been before arriving here. There is no one here he knows well enough to talk him through the bad days, nor feels comfortable enough doing so because of all the baggage that came with it. So he'd done what he had been doing every day since arriving here: trying his best.
And sometimes trying his best looked like apologizing profusely as he tries to right them both so that he doesn't cause her more unintentional bodily harm. What good is a body that survived rounds of experiments if he so often feels at the mercy of it? For a split second and by some miracle, Bob manages to right them. But of course what goes up must immediately come down.
He can barely see in this damn thing so all he gets is a brief glimpse of her face looking surprised like anyone would when their feet fly out from under them. More importantly, he feels the weight of her pitching backwards which naturally drags him down too. What happens next is in no way planned and more a pure reaction. His arm reaches out to wrap around her waist, his leg stopping her short inches from the ground. And though the octopus' eyes jiggle and bounce comically in front of her, he has, for all intense purposes, caught her. And also managed to make it look like he's dipping her in the same breath.
Onlookers who had stopped to watch this comedy of errors seem more than a little amused. And some of them, horrifyingly, even start to clap. Thank god he's still in this costume. ]
