Jack doesn't know that he's talking to someone who has experience being killed surrounding a father's grief too. It's not something he's ever had in common with another person so it doesn't occur to him to expect that. Everyone in his family has died multiple times, him included. That's why killing him wouldn't really satisfy Chuck this time around.
He does have a flat and direct way of speaking, and this topic doesn't seem to openly upset him. It was very painful and sad when God did that, but he came back. ]
