Foggy would have stopped him if John gave him a chance. Best to move quick and do the plucking before someone can realizing what's happening.

"It's not voodoo," John says with a roll of his eyes and quickly gets the pendulum back. "This is pendulum dowsing, a method of divination that has existed since ancient times. I'm not imploring the spirits for help, I'm tracking your aura which should still be attached to your missing wallet."

John is a private investigator. He could ask around, maybe get some leads but that takes entirely too much time. Magic will make it easier.

"Now shut up and watch." John takes a step away and gets back to what he's good at. If Foggy is watching closely he will see the twine glow a soft golden color after he finishes the incantation then the pendulum swings in a wide circle before snapping to the northwest, twine stiff like someone was pulling on it.

"We need to go that way," he says smugly then sets off at a brisk walk. "Now come on or stay out of my way."
