No, I had nothing.

[ He only had the clothes on his back and the van parked outside. He didn't have the money for food, let alone to buy anything else. It's why when Logan sets food down in front of him, he hesitates only a few moments before reaching out to take it. It's foolish to be proud when he spent years giving everyone else a home and supporting them financially, but he struggles accepting that same help. Logan he'll reluctantly do so with because they've already established that type of back and forth.

Charles raises his eyebrows when Logan begins but he doesn't interrupt, he lets him say his piece. He knows that there is a lot of history and emotion behind everything Logan says to him. Including when he was tired of his bullshit, and Charles respects that, he does. It's a strange experience, having that type of reverence without having earned it yet. He was close with his students and they built a strong bond, but he lost all of them. They were more like companions though, having discovered it at the same time, it's different when he knows that decades from now, he becomes a figure for mutants. Something much bigger than he's been at this point in time.

Charles is not afraid of the responsibility; he wants to take it onto his shoulders, he wants to be the guide and leader that Logan spoke of, the dream is his from top to bottom. But he is quiet for a few moments, tapping fingers on the table. ]

I wish I was ... closer, to the man you knew. I am decades from when we met, and I may aspire to that, but I am not him yet, Logan.

[ It seems important to communicate that now rather than letting it fester in him, the fact he cannot measure up right now to the great man that he may be someday. He can barely keep his mind in check right now, and he couldn't make money to feed himself, so he is not feeling particularly strong or like a leader of great men. ]

I don't want to disappoint you.
