Mechanics do exist in the city, but they perform more basic tasks like changing tires, oil changes, and so forth. Some don't consider them real mechanics and call them Swappies, since all they do is swap tires and oil filters. Complex jobs like body repairs, reinforcements, and engine modifications all take place in the Scrapyard.

Working for the Scrapyard would depend on skill. If a character proves worthy of an apprenticeship, someone might take them on, but we'd recommend you get in touch with us about this if your character officially joins the game so we can give you a better idea of how it'll all go! However, to start with and for the purposes of the TDM, they can do mundane janitorial tasks for some pocket change.

Otherwise, they can pretty easily get a job as a Swappie. Locals who've been in the Diadem for a while and have more money will usually pay someone else to do basic maintenance for their car while they take care of other business - but it's the equivalent of having a minimum wage cashier job rather than a respected skilled trade.
