I already know that the person I was previously with can't be here. He'd have found me by now.

[ Plus, Strange and Norrell are kind of cursed and forced to spend time right next to each other. He has no idea why the curse hasn't followed him—perhaps it is more firmly tied to Norrell now? Or perhaps this realm simply cannot handle that curse? But deep in his heart, Strange knows that if Norrell was here, the man would have found him instantly.

He then would have had to reassure him about cars and probably end up driving them, but that's to be expected.

There are other people he should look for, though. So as he gazes down at the puddle, Strange murmurs a few more words under his breath. Absolutely nothing happens.

With a deep sigh, he idly waves a hand and the puddle disperses, turning into mist that fades into the air. ]

I suppose it was idealistic thinking that someone from home would be here as well. Still, a man's allowed his idealism.
