[ At first she doesn't hear the door jiggle, what with her struggling and frustrated breath sounding around her from beneath the bed. But then she hears her brother's voice. She always would whether he shouted or whispered or even just silently looked at her and she knows immediately that something is wrong.
The surprise has her jolting though and she hisses in pain as her head hits the underside of the bed. The pain is nothing compared to the urgency that has now been instilled in her. ]
