I am aware that I'm coming from this from a distinct privileged position.

[ Charles is not oblivious here, he has lived a life with a silver spoon in his mouth so that even when the worst happened to him, he had a safety net and a home to come back to. He gave that home to others who might not have one, and that made him happy, so to be bereft of everything now is a stark contrast. And a startling one. It will take him longer than most to adapt and he's accepted that with a grain of salt.

He is getting more comfortable behind a wheel. This may be the highlight of his experience there so far, being able to drive once more. He doesn't know the streets well at all yet, so he does have to try and finagle his way through the streets, careful with his brake just in case. The voices do come at him from all angles but if he lets himself touch Erik's mind, it goes away.

He parks at the market and moves back into his chair, gliding down the ramp. ]


For example, I can't remember the last time I went to a market.

[ Hank usually handled all of that for him. ]
