Character

Name: Amos Burton
Canon: The Expanse

About: Holden's summation of Amos in the quote above is kind of the perfect overview of him. Amos is a mechanic out in deep space in the 24th century, and a lot of wtfery happened in the time recently leading up to what would be his canon point. Originally hailing from Baltimore (part of the North American Trade Zone), Amos had a very rough childhood and that shaped and fractured some key parts of him, namely his sense of morality, in that his moral compass is very different from that of others. As he's grown, he's developed a very fine-tuned sense of himself/self-awareness; he knows his perspective of right and wrong isn't the same as the "good people" around him, but in knowing that, he does his best to borrow from them, and he has the deepest respect (and fierce protectiveness) for good people. Kind of the equivalent of him having a broken (literal) compass and knowing what north looks like and that he wants to go there, but he needs help along the way. That "help" comes from Amos identifying people he determines to be good and righteous, and thinking about what they would do in situations, and using that to guide his actions.

He's very pragmatic and straightforward, he can be stoic but still with a deadpan sense of humor fiercely protective, doesn't judge much, doesn't really think about or care why people do what they do, just — what he needs to know about them. (i.e. This bad dude hurt his friend? He doesn't care why they did, just that they did, so that gets handled immediately and very often violently.) People generally fall into three categories for him: bad people, people you follow, and people you need to protect. Once he's determined you're either B or C, he's almost guaranteed to be loyal to you forever.

Plans/Ideas:
He's a mechanic so while he's usually working hard keeping a spaceship running, he'll have some projects to take on here! At the canon point I'm planning to bring him in from, he's actually already separated from his crew (Season 5 / Nemesis Games if you're familiar with the show and/or books) and while he's at a point where he openly says he 'needs to get back to them' because of some choices he'd recently made that he doesn't think they'd approve of, I'm very, very interested to toss him into this setting where that separation continues, and where he'll need to work with a new group of people and find new friends to be his 'what would ____ do' compass points.

He's easily adaptable so apart from the typical 'wtf' he'll adjust to the idea of this new place easily enough, it's just the slower process of building trust and finding his people that will be slower and a fun time!

Any characters you want to see in the game? Would of course love and adore any castmates, especially Clarissa, Holden, Naomi, Drummer, Bobbie, even 'Chrissie.' 😂 I'm very excited about all the cross canon potential if I get in!
