very little marvel knowledge is fine!!! basically this Dr. Strange is a divergence of the MCU version who was destined to be a wizard superhero but only completed his origin movie before he got obsessed with bringing his girlfriend back from the dead and absorbed a bunch of monsters to do it, only to destroy his own universe in the process. (oops!) he feels real bad about it now, so that's basically all you need to know hahaha
