Name: Karen Pronouns: she/her Contact: PM to this journal About: Hey, y'all! I'm really eager to get into some meatiness when it comes to storytelling here! The collaborative process is what attracts to this hobby, and I am constantly trying to improve the weave of my tapestry when it comes to writing. I thrive on unique ideas, surprising plot mechanics, and all manner of nuance. Toss me an idea or a hook and we'll make it happen.
General activity and TDM note: I have been on vacation the last week and busy the week before, so tags have been non-existent during that time. I plan to return to my outstanding tags, but understand if people prefer to handwave instead.
Character
Name: Franklin "Foggy" Nelson Canon: Marvel Cinematic Universe/Daredevil/Daredevil: Born Again Age: 45 Links:permissions | inbox | information
About: Foggy Nelson is generally one part of a very dynamic duo (sometimes trio) of Big City Lawyers* looking to make a difference in their burough, Hell's Kitchen, and beyond. Partnered with college classmate and long-time best friend, Matt Murdock (a.k.a. Daredevil), and the tenaciously indomitable investigative journalist turned casualty of friendship and loyalty (affectionate), Karen Page, Foggy spends his days arguing for the defense and his nights fighting against Matt's unceasing struggle with the Devil inside, the lax legal system, and a world getting darker by the day.
Foggy has a gift all his own, with loyalty and bravery being near the top of his list of defining traits. He is a practical dreamer, but also a kind and generous soul with deep, genuine feelings. His early interest in the typical trappings of his work such as high profile cases, big payouts, and firms with (too) many partners, is easily dismissed by a passionate plea from Matt; however, having been raised by very kind and understanding parents with minimal resources beyond their love and encouragement, it questionable if he'd ever be as cut-throat as he liked to imagine. Foggy's really a right path kind of guy and it's not likely to change any time soon.
*Lawyer, or lawyer-type being the essence of this example for a stupid number of reasons that have nothing to do anything in canon, but do relate to how firms in NYC are able to create partnerships.
Wanted CR:
- Foggy doesn't drive well. He never bothered to learn because he's a New Yorker and he has no need. Any chance to explore the benefits or detriments of car ownership are greatly desired! Changing a tire, checking fluids, drag racing, drifting – if you're into this kind of CR, I am here for it.
- Foggy doesn't (like to) fight. He can punch and take a punch, and he will fight like hell if other people are in danger (out loud and without a mask, thank you very much), but it's not his preferred way. He's a negotiator and deliberator, and a common sense guy. Any use of or diversion from is wholly and enthusiastically welcome!
- Law-like Themes! Really hoping to dig deep into the tropes like all crimes are equal in a lawless society, the disaster economy and its effect, the good is not nice and good is not soft tropeness, and so on. Especially like if we can weave in the natural elements and NPCs of the game so we can really have characters discuss ethics and morals that relate to this place itself.
- Camping. Missions. Diffusion zones. He's sick and tired of being sidelined (mostly by himself and good sense) and Foggy is starting to feel more open to the idea of taking a(nother) level in badass. Camping, hunting (maybe), bushcraft. Also, open to the ethics around this sort of things, too. For mission-based scenarios, as long as it's for the common good and he's not burdening the team, he's apt to go along.
- Dealing on some level with Foggy's functioning alcoholism because he is very much going to have trouble without a steady flow of liquor. This is primed to be a quiet, but not unspoken mental struggle since alcohol has been his coping mechanism for decades at this point. Best considered opt-in — I will try my best not spring this content without warning, but in the event I miss a warning, PMs are highly encouraged so I can adjust accordingly.
- Relationship things for canon reasons. Foggy is somewhere post his longest and most serious relationship with Marci Stahl. It's prepped to be similar to the functioning alcoholism content, in that Foggy is apt to internalize most of his struggle, but given the option or prompted, he's not at all beyond sharing his thoughts and feelings.
Plots/Plans: Foggy has been working at the sample counters in the Pavillion, as well as at the closest thing to a deli counter he can find. When encountered, he's generally upbeat and generous, often giving extra samples or swinging trades to acquire items from other storefronts that might not otherwise be readily available. He is encouraging of most items sold in his little deli, but absolutely swears off the Pepperoni Pinwheels™️ everyone else is obsessed with, insisting they're not pepperoni enough. And he would know.
He's currently living in the hotels in a room as cheap as he can manage so he can work on his getting out from under his debt. While it's not his favorite place in town, he is beginning to make it a bit more his own. Those living nearby are welcome to assume they've received something food-like from Foggy that's easily shared (think granola, popcorn, foods nearing the end of their shelf-life, and so on, but nothing larger or more abundant than what might be carried in a quart-sized bag).
Limits: I prefer to avoid the get-to-know-you conversations and first-time meetings without a more primary purpose. It's not an immediate no if someone would prefer a direct first meeting, but I would appreciate if it could include something additional, such as a shared subplot if going that route. This allows me to envision a "next step" in our CR, as general one-on-one meetings happen every day for Foggy that don't amount to more than that.
